Gay Gardens is a devoted landscaping team with a heart for letting the native ecology thrive. Our gardens directly support biodiversity and the carrying capacity of this fragile ecosystem. Climate resilience, sustainable growth, and support for endangered species guide our gardening ethos.

Rooted Here

We will work with you to design, plant, and care for a space that is beautiful, resilient, and deeply connected to the ecology of Fire Island Pines and Cherry Grove. Every project begins with our intake form, where you share your goals, rhythms, and site details, along with photos of your garden. Once submitted, you will receive a link to schedule a free 30-minute consultation with Liam to discuss priorities, walk through ideas, and prepare any necessary designs, schedules, and proposals.

Planting for Place

Our native plant sale is for gardeners who want to plant their own spaces with species that bring beauty, resilience, and life back to the Fire Island ecosystem. Every plant is chosen for the habitat it restores, the pollinators it feeds, and the color it brings through the seasons. All orders will be ready for pickup or delivery on the last weekend of September.

Support Our Future

We are working toward projects that will make the island ecosystem more beautifully sustainable for everyone. Our not for profit branch is reaching toward native sugar kelp farming in the Great South Bay to help mitigate septic runoff, protect the island from winter storm surge, and fertilize the new dune grass. We are also preparing to bring the bobwhite quail back to this island.  We’ll create safety by planting the understory they need to be at home again. In return, they will spend their days eating the ticks that endanger us. Ecosystem balance is a paradise long disrupted by colonial clashes. At Gay Gardens, we believe our care, vision, and collective action can return Fire Island to a true haven, alive and dreaming in tune with the land that carries us.
